Bad Communications From QA

When working on a video game there are certain absolutes. You will be overworked. The deadlines will be coming up too soon. And you will have someone breathing down your neck telling you to hurry up.

No department is immune to this, not even QA– the department that supposedly does nothing but play games. When QA gets stressed, you start seeing comments, bugs and questions coming out of the department that just make you stare dumbfounded at the words on the screen.

Just to make sure that I don’t sound like too much of an ass, I want to spell out that every one of these was fully justified as long as all the information is known, but stripped of context they’re pretty funny.

One of the Localization Implementation Testers (English speaker looking at the game to make sure he can’t read anything) for a Sims Stories title sent me this gem.

Bug: Chili Con Carne is not localized (translated) in Spanish.
Smart-ass Answer that wasn’t actually sent: HOLY CRAP, YOU’RE RIGHT! That should say “Spicy Beef Stew” in Spanish.

French Translator/Final Tester Question: What does maitre’d mean?
Smart-ass Answer that wasn’t actually sent: How the hell should I know? It’s your damn language.

I’m sure there will be more later, but those two are good enough for the moment.
